Dog Days of Winter

Posted on Updated on

Anyone who knows me can tell you, I’m an absolute sucker when it comes to puppies.

My niece recently posted a picture of a puppy she adopted from a shelter.  She named her Sadie.  Sadie is adorable.  She’s cute, and chubby, and she’s the reason I almost got in my car and drove through three states to adopt one of her siblings. (don’t worry, they all found their forever homes!)

(not Sadie but she looks almost like this!)

Not that I don’t adore my adult dog.  I love him to pieces.  But there’s just something about puppies that makes me go all warm and gooshy inside.

Maybe it’s the new-puppy smell, or the big, warm eyes in those sweet, little faces.  It might be the licks and wriggles and mouths that always look like they’re smiling at you and bright little eyes that say “let’s play.” Whatever the reason, puppies are my kryptonite.

Hi, my name is Nika and I’m a puppy addict.  (But honestly, if there’s a cure, I don’t want it!)

Okay, as promised, I’m doing another

GIVEAWAY

Woohoo!!

This time around, I’m giving away a signed print copy of my debut novel What the Lady Wants to one lucky U.S. reader (should the winner live outside of the contiguous 48, I’ll substitute an e-book version instead).  To win, here’s all you need to do:

  • Comment below about your favorite pet, or just animals in general

That’s it!  Easy peasy.

My mother had a dog named Sheba, and my husband and I had her siblings, Zeus and Apollo. Loved those dogs! Thanks for sharing!

Oh my gosh…I’m a sucker for puppies to. Every time I see them at a pet store. I went with my friend when she got her golden…love that boy. We have a pup 1 1/2 mixed pit. He looks like Petey from the little rascals or the Target dog. Yup. He’s a charmer my Louie….he just thinks he’s a lap dog at 57lbs now. He’s a rescue, best dog..still learning. Me I’m still leaning the puppy ways. It’s not easy when our other rescue was 4 when we got him. Love this page…was sent by Jeannie Moon to your blog. ❤️ Signing up for your newsletter and checking out your book. Congrats on your release..

Thanks so much, Mona! Jeannie is a real sweetie, isn’t she? And I know what you mean about the big lapdog thing. Our 70+ pound rescue, Rebel, has those same illusions. Or would that be delusions? *g*

I am a puppy junkie as well! Thankfully I teach puppy kindergarten and become the “aunt” who spoils the puppies! Consider volunteering with a local positive dog trainer to get your fix on a regular basis!

That’s a great idea! Although I worry that it would just make me want one even more, kind of like just having one Girl Scout cookie. 😉

I am completely with you on the puppy addiction. I have two dogs, Summer is 10+ yellow lab, and Buster is a 3 year old Black Lab/Heeler mix. If I could do one thing, that would be owning a dog rescue. It is hard work, and your heart breaks daily, but it is worth every minute to give a dog a chance at life. Yes, I COULD be a dog hoarder. Kisses and unconditional love are awesome!

Our 10+ mix is a shelter dog, and I wouldn’t trade him for the world. The hardest part when we got him was only coming home with HIM, and not four more as well. When we have more land (one day!) we hope to have a small herd of rescue dogs. Well, I do. My husband just nods and smiles and walks away. *g*

Don’t have any pets. Puppies are just so cute, cuddly, fun and everything else. At least until they make a mess and you have to clean up after them lol

I agree, the housebreaking part is the least fun of having a puppy. We got terribly lucky with our dog, Rebel. He picked it up within a few days. Huge relief!!

It’s great when they get along so well. I sometimes feel bad only having one dog, worrying that he’s lonely without a brother or sister, but he’s far too used to being king of the castle now (he’s 10) to bring another dog into the mix so we just spoil him rotten to make up for it. 🙂
